Crazy Magnet People

So many people collect magnets, it's unreal. Every show I do I always have people ask if I have any. People must have a lot of things they want to show off or display or maybe they have things they don't want to forget. Important things, you know?
I have seen refrig's that are totally covered in magnets. I mean every inch of it has magnets on it! Who are these magnet groupies? What made them so obsessed about them? i wonder... Well, here are my latest. More esty stuff.

Wonder Of It All...SOLD

This pin was made on chipboard and edged with silver tinsel trim. The photo is off a vintage look young girl wrapped in a scarf. It is adorned with a small flower in the right corner and further embellished by a single rhinestone. I have it for sale on Etsy at www.collageartist.etsy.com

Cherish Is A Word..

I seem to be on the ATC kick again. I put a bunch on ETSY tonight. I will go for ages and not do one and then all of a sudden I'll do twenty. They really are fascinating to me. Most of the ones I put on were made with velvet. It was my first time using it on ATC's. I really liked working with it. I also used metallic threads and vintage trims and laces too. Fun!

Funky Adornment..

Here is another way to use Tyvek. The paper bluish beads are the Tyvek. It was rolled around knitting needles to make these beads. I then used a glue gun to seal them. The other paper is some exotic paper I got at an art supply place. I think the two work well together. They are strung on jute and the other beads are really nothing special. They are held together by a mini-popsicle stick. Everytime I make these for shows I always sell out of them. Fun, easy and another way to use Tyvek!

Let Freedom Ring...

Every once in a while I like to do some patriotic style art. I especially liked this striped background paper when I first saw it. Everyone knows what a heart freak I am so it only seemed natural I use one here.
I started my "ETSY" shop finally and I put this along with some other things on. Stop by and check it out. You can get there by going here...

#1 Begin, #2 Keep Going...

I don't consider myself overly religious but I love doing art with religious figures, prayer cards and so on. I also collect Nichos, Retablos, Mexican Shrines and Religious Tin Art. I especially love the Sacred Heart images. I also like lotteria cards and use them quite a bit in my art too. I collect crosses and hang them in my studio. Sometime soon I will try to post pics of my studio so you can get a better idea where I work. It's a bit funky, but it's my refuge really. I love it in there!

There's A Little Wild Woman In Us All.....

Every once in a while I like to work with photos from the old west. Male or female, these images are of special interest to me for some reason. I especially like the ones of women with guns so I can use this quote. I don't know who this is in this photo, so I can't tell you more about it. Look for more in the future!

Wake Up Different....

Frida, what an incredible artist, what an incredible person. I am fascinated by her and her life. It seems only natural I'd do some art about her. Her pain and her passion. Her zest for life itself. Her world with Diego. The years I believe he didn't deserve with her. The romance I just can't understand. A powerful woman, who wasn't here long enough. My little tribute to her. One of many of my works about her.

The Crazy In Me.....

I love combining fiber and paper and am constantly on the lookout for interesting trims. Whenever I travel I am on my own personal scavenger hunt seeking out the perfect papers, fabrics, and trims in every city I go. Before I even leave home, I am on Map -It or in my car with details in hand, ready to use navigation to direct me to these stores. It's like some sick addiction I have to feed. I just cannot miss out on finding these treasures. It really doesn't seem so weird when you think about it, after all, my town is so small I buy my art supplies at the local Ace Hardware! (no lie) HA!

Everlasting Love....

When I first saw this photo it literally took my breath away. I already knew that their story was truly a story of "Everlasting Love." I heard from their grandson that they met and married within 6 weeks of meeting. She passed away recently and although I never got to meet either of them I do have a few precious photos of their life together.
My daughter will marry their grandson someday. I can only hope that their everlasting love will have been passed down through the generations and be carried on to my own daughter. What a gift they had. A precious gift.

She Lives On...

This is my mom. The 27 stands for 1927 the year she was born. I believe this photo was taken in the 50's sometime. I've always liked this pic of her, for some reason it's one of my favorites. I have very few family photos, but I love using them. Enjoy!

What One Loves In Childhood,Stays In The Heart Forever...

Having lost both my parents now (Wow, it sounds weird to say that) I find myself attracted to pics like the one I used here. I have so few of myself and my own mom together. Whenever I see these photos at antique shops or estate sales these are the first I snap up or are in search of. They are hard to find but they always hold a special place for me with thoughts of my own mother never far away. Tomorrow I will post a pic of her!

Be Good To Yourself....

Artist Trading Cards or ATC's are still one of the most popular art forms for collage artists. We love making them on any subject then trading them with other artists from all over the world. They measure a mere 3.5 X 2.5 and are like tiny gallery pieces. I treasure each one I get and keep them in plastic sleeves like a baseball card collector does. I always show them to my students and encourage them to make a few. They are fast, fun, and quite addictive!

I Am A Soul In Wonder....

This shrine was done for a group showing. It's special to me as it was supposed to have meaning to us in some way. I won't go into detail here about how I relate to this shrine but it came out just the way I wanted it to. I keep this shrine in my studio now, it's a fond reminder of a study of myself that I once did....and I learned alot too!

It's Never Too Late To Fly...

These pins were fun to make. I love using German scrap in my art, any time I can get my hands on it. I go through spells where I will do alot of jewelry for a while, then some collage, then shrines, then something else. That's the problem...I want to do it all! I told my husband today I wished I'd started this at 20 instead of 40. I guess I have alot of catching up to do!

Rescue Me, She Said....

I heard the mailman drive up and I knew it was finally here! My package from Mz. Denise at http://www.shabbycottageboutique.com/index.php I could hardly wait to open it! You can see all her beautiful art there. The white collage from today on, will be proudly in my studio bringing me inspiration every day!
I am posting these beachy collages I've done having been inspired by Denise's work lately! She's such a lovely person and a fantastic artist!

Some of you know, I own the Yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Mixed-MediaArtDolls/ I like to make funky art dolls out of all different kinds of things. This one has a canvas body, rolled paper for arms, fiber for hair, and Tyvek wings. If interested join the group and check the files out. There are 100's of pics by a ton of cool artists!

Those who look for beauty...find it...

This collage in a box sold quickly after I finished it. It was a hard one to part with. Every once in a while a piece will speak to me that way. I don't know why, it just does. Sometimes it's a material I've used in creating it. Sometime's it's just the time involved I've spent on it. Either way, I can't keep everything I've created nor do I want to, or I wouldn't be able to move in my studio!

Full Of Grace....

I love making shrines out of so many things. This one is made out of a sardine can. I like using old prayer cards and ephemera for these. I am always on the lookout for new things to make shrines out of. The more unusual the better!

Waiting All My Life...

Most of the time music plays a big part in the art I create. A simple song lyric can get stuck in my head and I know I have to create something from it. That's exactly what happened with this piece. The song was "Waiting All My Life" by Rascal Flatts. I love music and love XM radio and the variety of music it allows me to consume.

A world of wonder.....

Sometimes even the simplest of materials can result in the most interesting art. Here a tag, a few garden stakes, a wooden tongue depressor, and a feather proves less is often more. I hope you all enjoy seeing her as much as I did making her!

Sometimes my dreams keep me awake...

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy one of my latest works. This is a photo of my dad and my uncle. The other is my Aunt and Uncle on their wedding day. I have always loved that photo and remember as a child being totally mesmorized by it. I have recently begun to drag out the few old photos I have of my family and started to use them in my work.
