YES, I AM

Yes, I have decided to get my H1N1 shot today. It seems my Dr. thinks I am high risk, so I will go ahead and get it. I have listened to the pros and cons about it, but with baby Mia being 13 months now, i think it's best if we are all covered. I already have my regular flu shot, so i am all set! Yay!

Oh, How The Year's Go By!

Baby Mia turned one this last week, and oh, what a party it was! Lots of family, and friends, to help her celebrate. Thanks to everyone for making it a day to remember. Maybe not so much for her, but for all of us that enjoyed the celebration! I can't believe it's been a year already!

In Sickness And Health

Image courtesy of the Graphics Fairy
I hadn't mentioned before that my husband is having some medical issues as well. He was taken off work 3 weeks ago with shortness of breath and leg pain.
Well, they did find blockage in his leg we know so far. Today, we go for his heart test to tell us if any of his 5 stents all failing. He got them about 4 years ago. He may need stenting in his leg now, or more in his heart, or bypass. The testing today will tell us. Our Dr. only works 1/2 day today, and the test can take up to 5 hours, so we probably will have to wait through the weekend.
I hate the waiting....

The Hand That Feeds You

I have now been on Prednisone for two weeks for my hand. The MRI came back clear. (YAY!) The blood work looks ok too. I do have to go back to the Rheumatologist in one month as he said sometimes things just don't show up right away, but for now I am better, the joint pain is better, swelling and redness are better and I am able to do art again so I am happy!

Crowns, Wings, Pointy Hats?

I miss them all, in my beloved "Somerset." Ever since people went on this letter writing campaign it seems I see less and less of them. Also, what seems to be slowing fading is the vintage imagry art. This too, saddens me. I want my old Somerset back. I want the magic back. Is it that they have too many publications now, that their special little treasure is now not the little nostalgic heirloom that it once was? The one I'd drop everything I was doing the day it came for just to savor every page? The one and only magazine I have every issue from the start that I still can't bear to part with.
Anyway, with that thought in mind, I share with you this piece today!

Is Fall On The Way?

It is finally raining here! I can't remember the last time we had any. Seems like forever ago, now. I love the rain. The crisp air, the smell, the way it makes everything look, the change of colors that start to take hold as fall arrives. Can you tell I've had enough of summer?

Church Of The Pointed Hats

Still on my mission, of face creating. I've really got the bug now. Although, this hand is holding me back a bit, I will call tomorrow and see if I can get into the Dr. earlier than Sept. 8th. As I am sure you have noticed, I think most every face has a religious theme to it. Why, you might ask? I have no idea, other than to say I collect religious ephemera maybe. I am fascinated by it, in fact I have a whole wall devoted to it. I really am not dedicated to any one religion, but I do love religious art!

Crooked Cross- I will Survive

I am still plugging away, drawing, painting, using watercolor pencils, pastels or anything else I can get my hands on trying to perfect my faces! It's a slow process, I must say. I am not a quitter, so on I go. I do know that I am still drawn to the funk part of drawing, the unusual artists, the people who do all the things the traditional teachers, books and tutorials say not to!

Faces Of Whimsy

I call these Faces of Whimsy because after drawing my first face or was it a cat, I had to take some harsh criticism from a drawing teacher, that taught at the same Art Center I did. She was about 75+ maybe and she could not fathom the idea that I wasn't looking for realism, I was looking for funk and whimsy. When I first started teaching collage there, they thought I was whacked anyway, they just didn't get me. You see I live in a small town and that was many years ago now. I don't think they teach any collage there now, but I think they have a lot of plein air painters there though. To each his own!

Vintage Cook Books

Sometimes you just have to let go of things you love. Maybe because you've outgrown them, ran out of space or you've moved on to other things. Whatever the reason, I have just posted these cookbooks in my Thomassonlane.etsy.com store. You can read more about them there!

Vintage Funk Jewelry (Brooches)

Here is some of my new work. This pic isn't the best, but it's the best I have for today! I will try to do better with the next batch. You get the idea anyway, with what's kept me busy today.

Mmmmmm Good!

Last night's dinner was delicious. Beef wellington, stuffed pesto portabella mushrooms, risotto and sauteed squash. Of course I didn't eat the Wellington, but everything else was super yummy!

Even Though

Even though I am a vegetarian and all that, I still think these buttons are kinda cool. I doubt I'd use them on anything, but people seem to really like them. I think they'd be cool on lodge look art or things like that. I guess knitter's use them too. To each their own!
P.S. That's my grandfather in the pic. http://www.heart2art.etsy.com/

Still Sewing Collages

I am still at it as you can see. Seems everyone is pulling at me from so many places, there just aren't enough hours in the day. It's my own fault, I know I just tend to take on too much and my mind wants to do more than my body can. It's just the artists way, I am told. Anyway, I enjoy everything I do and that's what counts in life, isn't it?
